The Bambach Saddle Seat is suited to a wide range of therapeutic needs. Its advanced ergonomic design provides comfort in a natural upright posture even in the presence of significant physical impairment. The Saddle Seat dramatically improves balance, so much so that many neurologically impaired patients who would topple out of a conventional chair, sit independently in the Saddle Seat.
Before: In his electric wheelchair, this 14 year old with cerebral palsy and learning disorders had difficulty operating his computer. His pelvis rotated backward, his knees adducted (pulled together) tightly, and he had difficulty seeing and reaching his equipment and materials.
After: Using the Bambach Saddle Seat, he assumes a functional trunk and upper extremity posture. He has greater mobility with his feet on the floor, and his hand and head control are improved.
Muscular Atrophy: Case #11
Before: This 6 year old girl with muscular atrophy tired easily sitting on a conventional classroom chair. Her lumbar curve flattened, her shoulders hunched, and she had difficulty with hand tasks.
After: On the Bambach Saddle Seat her spine assumes and maintains its natural curves. Her upper body and arms are in more functional postures, her fine motor skills are improved, and she has improved endurance for seated tasks.
Epiphyseal Dysplasia
Before: In his electric wheelchair, this 11 year old boy had to assume an awkward posture of thoracic kyphosis and shoulder protraction for his schoolwork. He had difficulty turning his head to look at the teacher. His arms tired easily.
After: In the Bambach Saddle Seat he assumes correct postures and can use his feet for weight-bearing. He can more easily reach his classroom materials and see his teacher and other classmates, as he can now pivot around in his seat.
Spina Bifida: Case # 15
Before: This 6 year old has limited hip movement and some leg paralysis as a result of a number of surgical procedures and disclocations. In a conventional seat his pelvis was forced backward and he had difficulty reaching his work. He leaned on his arms to write. His pelvis sometimes slid forward and he fell out off the seat.
After: On the Bambach Saddle Seat he is secure and can sit with normal posture which frees his arms to manipulate equipment and materials. He bends forward from the hips and uses his feet to change positions. He is stable and no longer falls off the seat.
Amputee: Case #10
Before: This homemaker with an above-knee amputation found it difficult to manage kitchen tasks with crutches.
After: In a Bambach Saddle Seat her arms and hands are free to cook, carry and clean up. She can propel herself about with her one leg. She is very safe and stable.
Spinal Cord Injury: Case #1
Before: This homemaker with a spinal cord injury has partial paraplegia and severe back pain. She has a trembling, unstable stance and comes to standing with difficulty. She becomes short of breath with any exertion. She found it impossible to reach an above-counter cupboard from her wheelchair.
After: In the Bambach Saddle Seat she reaches cupboards easily and with less fatigue.
